Trapped for two days without food or water
in 12 out of 10 pain

Sat Dec 2 2023

Blazing Reader,

As long-time subscribers know, I'm a big fan of the Just Right podcast. I've been a regular listener for nearly a decade. Every Thursday, the latest episode has appeared in my iTunes feed without fail.

Until Thursday, November 2nd.

Noticing no new episode, I clicked over to the show's website. There was nothing posted there — not even a message explaining its absence.

On Friday, there was still nothing. I told my son (another long-time fan) that if I hadn't heard anything by Saturday, I'd give the host a call. I had Bob Metz's phone number after being a featured guest on his show last February.

Well, by Saturday evening there was still nothing. I was quite concerned. Bob is not only the host of Just Right, but also the president of The Freedom Party of Ontario. Considering how preserving freedom has nearly become a crime in Canada, I feared Bob may have been arrested or worse.

Turns out what happened to him fell into the "worse" category.

I called his home first, where I left a voicemail message. Then I tried his mobile number.

Bob answered after a few rings, not sounding like his usual upbeat self.

I quickly discovered he was in the hospital. It turned out he broke his femur bone at the hip. He described the pain as a 12 out of 10.

But that wasn't the worst part.

Bob lives alone. He had the accident in his bedroom. His telephone was on the other side of the apartment. It took him eight hours to drag himself to the adjacent bathroom. And the only reason he made it that far wasn't because he had to relieve himself. Quite the opposite. Thirst propelled him to lift himself onto the toilet seat to fill a glass with water from the tap.

But before he could get the glass to his lips, he dropped it.

Bob told me he spent that night lying on the wet bathroom floor in shards of glass.

It was two full days before his daughter noticed his absence, gained entry and called the paramedics.

Bob has since had surgery and has been making a relatively quick recovery. He even re-read Much Ado About Corona: A Dystopian Love Story during his hospital stay.

When I spoke to him last Friday, he was expecting to be home by now, eager to get back to work. Indeed, he told me that while he was experiencing his 48+ hour ordeal, he was already brainstorming ideas for the next episode of Just Right. As many of you know, the show takes a practical and philosophical approach to politics and current affairs based on objective morality. Bob assured me that this experience brought many practical and philosophical epiphanies about pleasure and pain, and the nature of reality, which he is eager to share with listeners.

That episode will be coming out soon. To make sure you don't miss it, you can head over to Just Right Media and subscribe via email. You'll also see that former co-host Robert Vaughan has been keeping the show going until Bob returns with a series of episodes asking big moral questions about the Israel-Hamas conflict.

PS Just Right has been on the air (yes, actual radio) since 2007, with over 800 episodes. Be sure to check out the archives or use the search tool. My son Jonah and I have been listening to a series of episodes providing evidence that Bill Cosby was falsely accused of sexual assault (33+ times) as a coordinated smear campaign against his conservative family values.

PPS And, of course, if you missed my guest appearance on Just Right head over to: On the Air with Bradbury, Orwell, Rand and... Richard Castle?
