Wednesday afternoon, anybody walking by the second-floor window to my son Jonah's bedroom would have been scratching their heads. While neighbours are used to hearing him singing and practicing the piano, this time was quite different. Instead of his solo voice, there was a full choir singing to the tune of "We Wish You a Merry Christmas."

Even stranger were the words. Instead of "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" six of us were singing "We Wish You a Safe Christmas" with absurd lyrics such as:

We wish you a sa-afe Christmas and a COVID vaccine.
True freedom it brings to you and your kin
We wish you a sa-afe Christmas and a COVID vaccine.
Oh, bring us herd immunity
Oh, bring us herd immunity
Oh, bring us herd immunity
Corona’s obscene.

Singing a Christmas carol in July that praises the COVID clot shot... Has the stress of fighting the New World Order for the last four years finally gotten to me?

Please, let me explain...

Remember Manuel Gutierrez Toccalino? I interviewed him and his mother Angela last year. He's the Canadian-Colombian boy who read all 500 pages of Much Ado About Corona: A Dystopian Love Story when he was only twelve. Well, they've been visiting Canada this summer and on Wednesday they dropped by for a visit with Manuel's brother Gio, his Uncle Pete and his two cousins, Freya and Ferris (Gio's not in photo):

And as you might remember from the interview, one of Manuel's favourite scenes in Much Ado About Corona was when the Prime Minister of Canada sang "We Wish You a Safe Christmas" as he received (or pretended to) his first shot of the COVID-19 vaccine.

So, I printed out the lyrics and six of us gathered in Jonah's small bedroom to sing it. His brother Gio wasn't feeling well (no, he didn't get the shot) so he sat it out. And Freya was too camera shy (so she filmed the whole thing for you). Click on the playback button below to watch it now:
