What's another 1,087 words after 20 years of work?

Blazing Reader,

Last week, the editor of All the Humans are Sleeping pointed out that my forthcoming novel was missing a crucial scene. Without it, the story makes about as much sense as appointing Biden the head of the Secret Service. Yet, neither he (my editor, not Biden), I, nor any of the beta readers had noticed its absence until now.

Strange, none of us spotting this glaring error, but I hope that means All the Humans are Sleeping is such an engaging read that a technical misstep goes unnoticed. Otherwise... it means all my beta readers are sleeping.

So... last week I drafted a new scene. A dozen rewrites later it has expanded into a new 1,087-word chapter. That brings the novel's grand total to 66,865 words.
