Blazing Reader,
A blazing reader sent me a link to an article by author Hugh Howey, called "Welcome to Your Silo" which is highly critical of conspiracy theories. Howey also makes no effort to hide the fact that his dislike of tin-foil hatters stems from his father's obsession with "far-right" radio.
As many of you know, I'm a big fan of Hugh Howey's Silo Series — a trilogy of three novels set in a subterranean bunker where its inhabitants have been surviving for the last five hundred years.
It's a dark story, but not as dark as it sounds. It deals with the theme of what is real, verifiable and objective versus what are merely beliefs, deceptions and myths.
It may surprise readers to hear that I largely agree with many of the sentiments Howey makes in his article criticizing conspiracy theories.
The fact that "conspiracy theories" are called "theories" says a lot. Until they are proven, they are largely a distraction from us doing whatever it is we are here to do with our lives. And even when they are proven, a lot of these conspiracies won't change the trajectory of lives by any noticeable degree.
The only reason I was so opposed to the COVID con game was because the mandates directly affected my ability to live my life the way I wanted to live it. The fact the government was arresting people for playing ice hockey, kicking them out of stores for refusing to wear bacteria-ridden masks, shutting down restaurants that served unvaxxed customers, and dragging pastors out of their churches for holding services... was not a theory. It was happening. It was an undeniable fact (as much as some people tried to ignore the horror of it all).
I also know Hugh Howey has posted many articles in support of masking, lockdowns, vaccine mandates and just about anything else the WHO concocted to keep us "safe." So, he and I are certainly not aligned as far as personal freedom and individual autonomy go. Nonetheless, I think he makes some salient points about those who choose to bury themselves in a "silo" based on theories, not facts. It's hard to live your life when you're hiding out in an imaginary bunker deep within your own mind.
