A concrete definition of (the typically abstract term) "spirituality"

In a recent interview, Paul Lendertse (of the Root Cause Institute) offered his definition of the normally abstract term "spirituality":

...the sincere dedication to reflecting on our own behaviours, beliefs and actions — any time we run into a challenge — so that we can look into and find our shadow (the parts of ourselves that may be out of alignment with love and truth).

Other than "sincere dedication" sounding a little redundant, I appreciated his definition — where spirituality isn't about blissing out but rather about growing into a more authentic version of ourselves.
