Sat Nov 4 2023 | "God Rest Ye Merry Billionaires" | This week, Martin Kerr (one of my favourite Canadian folk singers) released "God Rest Ye Merry Billionaires." The title may sound anti-capitalist at first, but I doubt most billionaires made their billions through free market economics — as Kerr suggests in my favourite verse: "In Washington and London-town you pay the lobby fees / To hold the reins both left and right of sham democracies / And keep us entertained so we don’t know we’re on our knees." You can listen to "God Rest Ye Merry Billionaires" on Bandcamp.
Thu Nov 2 2023 | "I thought you captured the nonsense of the plan-demic so well." | An email I recently received from Mark, a new blazing reader: "I had the pleasure of meeting you at a Queen’s Park rally [in Toronto] in September. After hearing you speak to the crowd, I had no hesitation in buying Much Ado About Corona. I just finished it and I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish... I thought you captured the nonsense of the plan-demic so well. I thoroughly enjoyed the dynamic relationship between Vincent and Stefanie. I also liked how you used certain names that are relevant in the fight against this tyranny. Brian Peckford Park, Trozzi's Pizza, to name a few. And your depiction of 'our premier' was excellent, without naming the clown. I would mock him by starting out every sentence with 'folks.' I laughed when you included that! I honestly can't think of anything that I did not like about the book... I didn't put the book down... And... Now, I am eagerly waiting for the sequel!" If you are also eagerly awaiting the sequel to Much Ado About Corona, consider becoming a Blazing Pine Cone Patron to help speed up its release (and get some exclusive member-only perks).
